About the Author
Heidi Gerard Kaduson, PhD, RPT-S, specializes in evaluation and intervention services for children with a variety of behavioral, emotional, and learning problems. She is past president of the Association for Play Therapy and co-director of the Play Therapy Training Institute. Kaduson has co-edited many books and maintains a private practice in Monroe Township, New Jersey. Charles E. Schaefer, PhD, RPT-S, is professor emeritus of psychology, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Hackensack, New Jersey. Schaefer is cofounder and director emeritus of the Association for Play Therapy and a fellow of the American Psychological Association. Among Schaefer's sixty-five books are the outstanding Handbook of Play Therapy and The Therapeutic Use of Child's Play, both of which have become classics in the field. He maintains a private psychotherapy practice for children and their families in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Good to have on hand

I am giving this book the same review as it's more current version, 101 More Favorite Play Therapy Techniques. There are a lot of really good, creative ideas in this first version, just as there are in the newer version. However, the one thing that is lacking in both books is a quick statement at the begining of each activity that identifies what age group and what general problem the activity is most appropriate for. Such information allows me to decide, right away, whether to invest the time in reading further about the activity if I think it would be relavent to a particular child I am working with.

About the Author

Qiao Yun was born in Luanxian County, Hebei Province, and he graduated from Beijing Teachers College, where he majored in Chinese literature and Chinese history. He then joined China Architecture & Building Press, where he became a Senior Editor and Deputy Chief Editor. Since the early 1960s, Yun has been involved in writing and editing the History of Ancient Chinese Architecture and �Ancient Chinese Architecture. He was chief editor of Yuanmingyuan, editor of the Academic Periodical of Yuanmingyuan, and has published over 20 essays. He also wrote Walls and Towers, another volume of the Library of Ancient Chinese Architecture series. Good text for reading and understanding the underlining problems associated with different structure of the class system here in America. I took away lots of knowledge from this text. I actually rented this text but i think i will purchase it as a resource textbook.

It's actually a pretty good read.

You can tell that Eitzen is a Marxist. He approaches social problems as conflict theorist. The thing is that Eitzen doesn't tend offer actual solution, but I guess that up to our generation. All and all it's a good book easy to follow.

Yuri and Katrin Shumakov - a stellar artist-duo, professional origami creators, who started their origami journey in France in 1989 and since then they unfold this art in a heretofore unseen way! They have created amazing paper world ORILAND with incredible fantasy Kingdoms that impress with rich detail of majestic castles, abundance of paper flora and busy life of little paper dwellers. Their newest kingdoms Toy-ronto and Albuquerque combine fantasy and reality together, presenting a whimsical artistic rendition of iconic sights of these cities. Another beautiful and elegant aspect of origami they brought to life is ORIBANA - a marriage of two Japanese arts: Origami and Ikebana. By combining these remarkable art-forms, in early 1990s Katrin and Yuri began to create paper flower arrangements in paper vases and thought up a distinctive name for it - Oribana. Since then they designed more than 50 charming oribana-compositions with a broad variety of origami flowers and vases. Being prolific origami authors they created more than a thousand of origami designs from simple forms and cute characters to complex dinosaurs' skeletons and architecture that all have a distinctive Oriland style. Psychologists by education, Katrin and Yuri have studied how origami helps children learn. Their Ph.D scientific work shows that by doing origami, children develop better use of both hands and that origami can improve creativity and intelligence in children ages 7 to 11. They believe that origami is "entertainment for the soul, gymnastics for the mind, and training for the hands." In 1999, Yuri and Katrin received the Silver Award in the ThinkQuest International Competition for their 'Travel to Oriland' website and it brought them and their team to Universal Studios Hollywood for the Award Ceremony! Their Oriland.com website became a winner of the Childnet Award that was given them in Paris, France. Both these projects were acknowledged as high quality creative, educational and fun websites for children and adults. Yuri and Katrin have written more than 30 origami books and instructional CDs, and their works have been exhibited in many countries including several venues in the United States, France, Spain and Canada. The Shumakovs also extend their artistic talents to the realm of photography and music. Katrin is a winner of the Toronto Photo Contest 2010. Yuri is enjoying music composing and sound design. About the Author
Robert R. Pagano received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1956 and a Ph.D. in Biological Psychology from Yale University in 1965. He was Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington, Seattle, from 1965 to 1989. He was Associate Chairman of the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh, from 1990 to June 2000. While there, in addition to his other duties, he served as Director of Undergraduate Studies, was the departmental adviser for undergraduate majors, taught both undergraduates and graduate statistics courses, and served as a statistical consultant for departmental faculty. Pagano was also Director of the Statistical Cores for two NIH center grants in schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease. He retired from the University of Pittsburgh in June 2000. Pagano taught introductory statistics courses at the University of Washington and at the University of Pittsburgh for over thirty years combined. While at the University of Washington, he was a finalist for the Outstanding Teaching award for his instruction of introductory statistics.

Superb Introductory Statistics Text

Prior to the first edition of this text I used a different text in my introductory statistics course each year because students did not like my text selections. I've used Pagano's text every year since the first edition was published in 1981 because every year the students tell me to retain this text. It is superbly written and exquisitely designed. It is the best text of its kind that I have seen in the past 25 years of teaching the subject.

It's Statistics....

If this is a class that is needed for graduation, then this is a good one. It accurately describes formulas to the extent that often I refer to the book over what the professor is speaking. Too frequently the prof can deviate from the actual material that a good sense of grounding is needed. Pagano effortlessly provides this backbone from which to base all statistics.

I can only speak from a psychology student's perspective, but despite my loathing for statistics, I still find this book somewhat endearing (as far as textbooks go). There are several sections that I would not have been able to pass had it not been for this books descriptions and breakdowns of problems and examples.

Though I wish there were more problems per chapter (at the end of the chapter questions and practice problems), this book provides a comprehensive introduction into statistics.
