Excellent book for trainers that care to know joints better!

As a personal trainer, I'm always on the look out for more information. In this business, like many others, one should never stop learning and looking for more to learn. I've also been a joint-mobility expert for 10 years, and THIS book is an excellent resource to understand joints and movement futher (especially when exercise to obsessed with muscle and NOT joints). I know I am NOT a doctor or physical therapist, BUT it does make sense that personal trains must take time to learn more about joints than muscles. Yes, know your muscles and how they work as a group, but the joint have much more to them as they tend to be the victim of the abuse from muscles (be it good or bad movement).
That being said, the book is one of the better books out there in my opinion as an educated personal trainer. Other trainers who are in it for money, women, ego, or like just tell people what to do will not buy this book. On the other hand, those who care and figure out they must be aggressive with education (and not just college, but independent study as well) would benefit from this book. How much? Depends on a)if you take the time to read, remember, and understand the material in the book, b) practice while learning, c) make sure you offer joint range of motion measurements in a NON-medicinal sense (use as a measureable index and NOT as a medical or diagnostic tool) and make that clear to clients. PS: Don't forget to purchase a quality Goniometer (search the internet).

Book notes: Pictures are black and while with red line accents and some red for muscles in drawings. People who are NOT doctors or therapists (ie, Personal Trainers) would be a little or a lot lost with some or all of the numberical data and references and literature referals. I suggest you read EVER WORD and be cautious in what you do and when you use the measurements. The teaching pictures are reasonable, but I wish they were in color, larger, and the text was more friendly.

good beginner book for goniometry.

I am a student in a physical therapy doctoral program and this was one of the required books for the class. This book has been fairly useful in studying goniometry. The pictures are good and the descriptions of patient/therapist positioning is very clear. The only thing that I would add to it would be a quick reference spreadsheet for goniometer placement so one does not have to flip back and forth through the book if you are looking for a single reference point for a joint motion.

Super adorable, great gift for the crafty kid in your life, or for yourself!

This book delivered, it had way more patterns in it then I expected from online previews. My daughter is looking forward to raiding my yarn stash and making lots of snakes to give as gifts to neighborhood friends. Vickie as always has an excellent eye for whats adorable, fun and modern! Also perfect for when you need projects to knit as gifts.

I remember finger knitting with cotton loops when I was a child and making a long chain that literally all around my house. We would sit outside in the sun all summer long making the chain and giggling while we chatted about school and other silly things. I have no idea what ever happened to that chain but I know every moment sitting in the sun with my friends was a priceless thing. Hoping my daughter can have the same experience with this book as her guid and my endless stash as fuel!

This is a cute book that I got for my 10 year old grandest-daughter for Christmas. It has a lot of cute projects that I believe she will be able to do on her own. She loves crafts and looms etc. The price was right and shipping was fast (with Prime).

The directions at the beginning were clear and easy to follow on how to finger knit I picked it up right away. I enjoyed finger knitting so much I can't stop making things inspired by all the pretty projects. My yarn stash has been torn apart and transformed into a bunch of new home dec projects.

A truly influential master

It's not by chance that Walter Simonson himself writes the foreword on this book. And you can go and ask Bill Sienkiewicz.

Italian artist Sergio Toppi had a singular, unique voice. His sense for layout has been "invoked" by many, but never imitated.

And now, thanks to Archaia, american readers will be able to know and enjoy it. Do yourself a favor and get this book, but do yourself a double favor and get it somewhere else if you want it in good condition. I tried three times and Amazon's terrible packaging service managed to ruin it all three.

Amazon's answer to this too frequent problem? Putting the book under review, as if there were something wrong with their stock, when what they should be "reviewing" is their unprofessional and highly inefficient packaging department.

Gorgeous!!!

I never knew about Toppi until he passed away last year and an artist that I know mentioned it. As soon as I saw some of his work by doing a Google search I had to add whatever I could to my collection. I'm not a big fan of purchasing stuff in a foreign language because I like to read as much as I like to look. And in the case of Toppi, you don't get much story without the text due to the graphically stylized nature of his work. Luckily there were two tomes being published in English and were available for preorder at great prices so I went ahead and did so. I finally received this, the first one, the day after christmas and was ecstatic. It's everything I had hoped it would be. A nice hardcover binding with a matte finish and thick pages with just the right gloss to really make the artwork pop, at a great price with beautiful artwork and engaging stories. I'm a big fan of black and white comics when they are as engaging to look at as this, but was glad there were some color sections to show off Toppi's amazing watercolor work. The stories themselves and they way they are told are very European or Heavy Metal comics style, which is a good thing in my mind, but if you don't like that, buy just for the artwork and you may find you do. Archaia did a great job with this and I'm really excited to get the other book I ordered. I hope they end up doing more translations of Toppi's work to publish in English speaking countries as I know I will be right there ordering every one.

Inspiring art, opening new worlds

At Emerald City Comic Con 2015 one of the artists I showed my portfolio to suggested I check out the Italian artist Sergio Toppi, saying "I think he's doing what you're trying to do here". I browsed through this book at the BOOM! studios convention booth and was impressed by how keenly the artist was able to pick up on my artistic sensibilities. Toppi's work is incredible blend of detailed line art and abstract forms - reminiscent of two of my favorite artists, Gustav Klimt and Gustave Dore. 2 of the 12 fables are in full watercolor, the rest are black and white. Each page looks like it should be a poster print. The drawback to this is that, at least in this collection, the storytelling is sacrificed for the sake of the image. Without the text and dialogue, one wouldn't be able to follow the story, which is a big problem in the world of comics/graphic novels. Thankfully, Archaia has printed this and another book The Collector in English, hopefully with more to follow.

As for the story itself, it is essential a sample of tales taken from the The Arabian Nights: Tales of 1,001 Nights: Volume 1 (Penguin Classics), which I haven't read yet. It's the same source as the popular story of Aladdin and while that story doesn't appear in this book, there are a fair number of malevolent djinni's that make appearances. These are basically similar to Grimm's Fairy Tales, made more exotic to most Western readers by their setting. This isn't a book to give kids who loved the Avengers films, but rather something for more mature readers who love strange literature that isn't plot or character driven. Probably the most similar thing I know of in "mainstream" comics is what Mike Mignola is currently doing with Hellboy in Hell Volume 1: The Descent.

A long walk in the forest of life

This is an unusual story which was originally written in sements for a Japanese newspaper. It's about a young man who leaves home because of a scandal involving his fiance and another woman. There's a lot of thinking and walking, but the writing is compelling.

And when it comes to past events, it’s even worse: there’s no distinguishing between ourselves and other people. The best we can say is “probably” or “apparently.” I may be accused of irresponsibility for this, but there’s no getting around it, because it’s true. Which is why I intend to continue with this approach whenever anything doubtful comes up.)"

I could relate to the unamed young man since I moved to California when I was 18, without much thought,except to head out somewhere. The book is thought-provoking, without providing any answers.

This book is not exactly a novel, as often pointed out by the same protagonist of the story, more than anything else is a long stream of consciousness (with punctuation, thank God) that tells the thoughts and emotions of a young Japanese man who ran away from home, in the first years of the '900. Fled for a women's issue from the family of origin, the nineteen year old finds himself with no money to be hired to work in the mines, but he has not the "physique du role". Claustrophobic and not only the part of the story that's set in the mine, it almost seems that the protagonist is forced to constantly mulling in his own thoughts, brooding, and the feeling is overwhelming.

Questo libro non � propriamente un romanzo, come sottolinea spesso il protagonista stesso della storia, pi� che altro � un lungo stream of consciousness (con la punteggiatura per fortuna) che racconta i pensieri e le emozioni di un giovane giapponese scappato di casa, ai primi del '900. Fuggito per una questione di donne dalla famiglia di origine, il diciannovenne si ritrova senza soldi ad essere assunto per lavorare in miniera, ma non ha proprio il physique du role, come dire. Claustrofobico e non solo la parte in miniera, sembra quasi che il protagonista sia costretto a rimuginare continuamente i suoi stessi pensieri e la sensazione � opprimente.
