I'll update...just got this today and started reading

Once again Neale has done nothing but talk to God -- ask tne questions and listen for tne answers from God.
Even before i read book 1 i talked to God..i thought everybody did. All my life i have. Then an ex girl friend gave me book 1 .we had been dating about a month and going through a hard time. I read a few pages and laid it down.
6 months later we broke up and i was still trying to see my boys ..
Sitting in a motel room after sleeping in my truck for 3 days with below 30 temps and 6 inches of snow on the ground i got myself a room and saw the book and stayed reading it again -- its all i had to do.
It got me through those times and still does and each book has an outlook that can only come from God.
I've had brilliant thoughts about things that...I'm not that smart they have to be from God. It took me years to learn to take the time to wait for God to talk to me.
You'll either love it or disbelieve it but to me man wrote tne bible this isn't to go against the bible but enhance our thoughts about God

Great author, Great book!

I read Books 1, 2 and 3 many years ago and now I am enjoying Book 4. I also get Neale's Daily Messages. It feels like Neale is looking through my window, he is so tuned in to me. This book is 288 pages and I am up to Page 225 and read every chance I get. Great message for all of humanity.

Must Read, Fabulous Book

Great book, I've followed the entire trilogy of these thought provoking books and have enjoyed them all. This book helps you consider what we need to do to get rid of the violence in our planet thru choices that we make - choices that an evolved society of an evolved person would make and what that looks like. Neale Walsch expresses beautifully how we are literally just ONE decision away from chaning this planet, living peacefully lives that are free of violence. It goes into how everything in our world sets us up for violence & how to break that cycle ....with a decision to awaken the species (humans)

Excellent, reasonable, science-based case/advice for natural birth

I love this book. I am a physical scientist by training as well as a feminist and a HEAS (Health at Every Size) advocate (I am average weight and athletic myself) and so I can't stand much of the natural birth rhetoric about spirituality etc. but am attracted to natural birth for the physical benefits. I just want to have a birth that's best for myself and for the baby (my first). I did quite a lot of research on gestational physiology and birth mechanics online before coming across this book on Amazon. Who cares if the photos are from the 1970's, you guys - that was the height of the women's movement in this country (US) and we of later generations should be grateful for the pioneering work those women did on our behalf. The information in this book is solid, concise, comprehensive, and well-organized. There is a lot of advice on prenatal stretching/yoga to prepare your body physically for the birth, as well as advice on securing a calm, dark, stress-reducing atmosphere in the delivery room, whether that's at home, in a birth center, or at a hospital. My favorite information is on birth mechanics - the diagrams are excellent and easy to understand, and the author makes an excellent case for active birth. I did not detect any real shaming language when pain medication was discussed, which was a breath of fresh air, just rational weighing of benefit vs. risk. There was a strong emphasis on discussing what to expect in terms of physical/emotional symptoms during labor/delivery, and what's normal vs. something to be concerned about, which was very helpful to me. I do wish that there were more footnoted medical references, but if you want to search PubMed for the studies you can do so. I also bought Natural Hospital Birth and didn't get anything out of that book that I didn't already get from Active Birth. I would recommend Active Birth to the evidence-based medicine minded expectant mother who wants to prepare herself physically, emotionally, and intellectually for birth. I re-read this book once every two to three weeks to cement the information in my mind as I realize that during labor one's memory for these types of details may be compromised.

BEST book for labor preparation !!

I was very much interested in having a drug-free delivery and have read/browsed a lot of books/birthing methods including Hypnobirthing, Bradley's, Ina May and a bunch of others. I liked the concept of Hypnobirthing but don't believe it's for everybody. But I firmly believe that active birthing is something that EVERY woman who wants a natural birth can follow. It is extremely intuitive and after having a pretty quick labor I can attest to the fact that being active was what helped me the most to get through the labor with pain that I could manage and cope with. I had intense back labor and there was NO WAY I would have managed it by lying down on my back the entire time. I instinctively felt the need to get up on my feet and lean forwards on a support and I could get through my contractions without feeling the need to scream or yell or exhaust my energy in a negative way. It was easier to let the contractions do what they were trying to thereby reducing my labor period. I think that what the book tells you will come to you naturally when you are in labor and instead of fighting with your urges by lying down in the semi-reclining position, it's best to do what your body wants you to do to reduce the discomfort. Labor is intense and at a point the pain can feel excruciating but if you can let go and be active the whole time it does not become a negative experience. I was being made to lie down and offered an epidural when I was 8cm. And just because I knew that this was transition and although it was hard work I knew that I was close to meeting my baby and I was able to fight with the hospital staff and stay on my feet. I had a small tear but I am pretty sure that was all because of the pulling by the doctor while pushing when I could not fight them off. Had I been left alone to push naturally and in an upright position I am sure I could have gotten off completely unharmed. I was in a very good shape after the birth and could have gotten up and cooked a meal if need be (although I rested for quite a bit!!).

Labor is LOTS of hard work and very intense, it's not something I would call painless. I do understand that there are circumstances where a laboring woman will need medical help and I would never say she shouldn't take it. Drugs have their own place in the whole scheme of things and should be used where necessary. I have been on that side of the equation too and would never blame someone for making an informed choice. But if someone tells you that c-section is "safe and easy these days" or episiotomy is "routine and ok" or epidural is so much more fun...don't believe them blindly. A drug-free birth is painful but the pain is manageable if you have the right information and you trust your body.

And to return to a more relevant topic (as a review on this book), this book will provide you with a ton of information on how to do it. The exercises are very helpful to prep your body for the hard work and even useful otherwise to get back in shape after the birth. Information about the different upright positions, what helps what kind of labor pain etc is also extremely useful. This book made the most sense to me of all the books on labor and was something that was practically useful. I would recommend this book to everyone who is interested in a drug-free birth.

This book was very helpful for me as I wanted a natural birth. My doula recommended it to me, and I did many of the positions (mostly yoga) and breathing techniques during my pregnancy. My doula also had me do these techniques to stay active during my labor. I especially loved how the author explained how to listen to your body and just let your body do what it's supposed to do while in labor, and when delivering. She also explains how you will feel and things you will say especially in the last phase of laboring pain free like, "I can't do this anymore." And that is EXACTLY what I said while laboring. So, if you are looking to have a natural birth, I highly recommend this book.

Six Reasons to Like the New Purpose-Driven Life

It has been 10 years since the publication of The Purpose-Driven LIfe, the book that topped best-seller lists for months and sold more than 32 million copies.

Rick Warren's simple formula linking each person's purpose to five classic functions of the church--worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and mission--has helped countless people re-examine their lives and deepen their faith.

When the book originally released in 2002, I was editorial director at a Christian publishing house and had previously served as a pastor for several years. As a "professional Christian," I was skeptical that Warren's seemingly simplistic approach had much to offer.

But when the church I attended did a Purpose-Driven campaign, I dutifully agreed to read a chapter a day. I was immediately hooked by Warren's unassuming voice and clear, biblical message. I read the entire book in two days and was highly motivated to re-engage in the practice of spiritual disciplines and ministry.

Since then I've used the book as the basis of a small-goup study on two occasions. This material continues to connect with basic questions people have about how to live a meaningful life.

Now Zondervan has released an anniversary edition in an attempt to reach a new generation of readers.

The expanded edition includes two additional chapters, plus online supplemental resources: a one-minute video introduction of each chapter, and a roughly 60-minute audio recording of a Sunday sermon by Warren to accompany each of the 42 chapters.

The bonus materials don't add much value to the book, however. The chapters really don't need an introduction, and I can't imagine anyone listening to 42 hour-long sermons in addition to doing a six-week group study of the book.

Purpose-Driven has been criticized by some for being too simplistic about spiritual matters and for Warren's hopscotch approach to using Scripture when supporting his points. Even so, the material is useful.

Here are six reasons I still recommend The Purpose-Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?

1. It makes basic Christian concepts accessible to just about everyone.

2. It's a surprisingly inspiring read.

3. It makes a good text for a new converts class.

4. It's an easy choice for a six-week small group study.

5. It is a versatile resource for one-on-one discipleship or mentoring groups.

6. Though the book has some shortcomings, they are outweighed by strengths.

No book is perfect, and Purpose-Driven is no exception. Yet for a decade it has been a value to pastors, small group leaders, and every-day Christians get in touch with God and themselves.

Very Helpful

Even though the book seems to be written from a more fundamentalist viewpoint that I happen to have, I got a lot out of reading this book and recommend it to anyone with at least Christian leanings.

Following the instructions in the book, I spent some time everyday for 40 days reading one chapter of the book and considering what it had to say until the next day. The time required was minimal, but there were many rewards/insights to be found.

The books is written around 5 purposes that can be summed up as worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and mission. As should be apparent, the importance of service is a key theme. There is no attempt to fit you into a box of a set shape; everyone being different and the desirability of that is recognized as very important.

I avoided reading this book, despite seeing it all over the place for a long time. I am glad I gave it a try. Hopefully, you will too.

Inspiring

The Purpose Driven Life is a devotional book, and with over 30 million copies sold, it's become quite popular. So what's all the fuss about? Well, the book offers readers a 40-day personal spiritual journey, and presents what the author says are God's five purposes for human life on Earth. They are:

1 You were planned for God's pleasure
2 You were formed for God's family
3 You were created to become like Christ
4 You were shaped for serving God
5 You were made for a mission

What you're suppose to do with the book is this. It's divided up into 40 brief chapters, and the reader is urged to read but one chapter a day so you can take time to think about it's implications for your life. Therefore, you really start finding yourself interacting with the book, and not just merely "reading" it. To that end, each chapter finishes with points to ponder, a verse to remember, and a question to consider.

All-in-all I found this to be a pretty thought provoking and inspiring book. The chapters are short, which I greatly appreciated due to my busy daily schedule. Additionally, I found the author's writing style easy going, which makes the book an overall enjoyable read. So if you're looking for a good book to help guide you along your spiritual journey, or a "workbook" to help you answer some of life's most important questions, I can definitely recommend you check it out. Other self-help books I liked include The Prayer Project: How Each One of Us Can Make The World a Better Place to Live - In a Few Minutes a Day.

Better late then never

My HML 1973 Yearbook (I am Class of 1976) that I should have gotten 40 years earlier I got from Amazon.com in April of 2013. This Yearbook is that online copy from classmates.com and it looks good as a soft cover print.
Within the book there are some but not too many personal hand written wishes to its owner, nothing really major just your typical “Oh can you sign my Yearbook” kind of things.
If you’re like me and never purchase that yearbook or lost yours then this your chance to acquire it again.

Nathan Rozentals has been writing commercial software for over 24 years. Starting with mainframe COBOL, then moving on to C, followed by C++ and Java, and finally settling on C# and ASP.NET. He has been working with and writing blogs about the TypeScript language, since its release towards the end of 2012. In TypeScript, he found a language through which he could bring all of the object-oriented design patterns and unit testing practices that he had learned over the years, through a variety of languages, to JavaScript. Nathan currently works in the Health Industry, bringing touch-screen interfaces to medical systems; thereby enabling Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) solutions for clinicians and hospital staff. TypeScript for the real world

I personally enjoyed this book. When I finish it you felt ready to use TypeScript at my everyday job. The book covers the Typescript language syntax (which is really straight forward for Java or C# developers) but the real value is that It also provides good advice and tutorials about how to use the language in both front-end (node.js) and back-end with multiple MVC frameworks (backbone, marionette, angular), module loaders (AMD & CommonJS) and unit testing frameworks.

There are not many books on TypeScript the best option used to be Pro TypeScript by Steve Fenton (ISBN-13: 978-1430267911) but that books was only focus on the Typescript language syntax and it didn't provided enough real life examples. If you are looking for a TypeScript book I would highly recommend this one.

I can recommend the book to any existing or future TypeScript developer

The book starts out pretty slow with the necessary introduction to the language and the tooling available for it. Complete beginners in TypeScript will probably appreciate this part the most, but it is really exhaustive, therefore even existing developers might learn something new. The same goes for type definitions; not only will the reader know how to use them, he will also learn to write his own, for JavaScript libraries that don't have them yet.

Still, in my opinion the real value is delivered in the later chapters of the book, where the focus shifts from the language specification to real-world scenarios. The author is reinforcing best practices all the time: explaining the SOLID principles, promoting testing and test driven development, implementing design patterns, such as factory, service locator, mediator and others. Seeing real software engineering approaches applied to TypeScript and JavaScript code is really valuable.

Unfortunately, JavaScript development today is strongly dependent on 3rd party libraries. This is a quickly evolving field with many alternatives available for every task. Because of this, the author couldn't completely avoid being subjective in his choice of frameworks, which he used in his samples. I like, how he compared them through the lens of a TypeScript developer, although you still shouldn't regard it as a guide to choosing the right one. It's just an incomplete overview that can get you started, when picking your own set of MV*, testing or modularization libraries.

I have mixed feelings about the custom frameworks developed throughout the book, implementing reflection, service locator and message bus functionalities. Although they have pedagogical value, they might be too tempting to use in own projects. In my opinion using these instead of maintained alternative open source libraries is not a good idea; and this isn't clearly communicated in the book.

In spite of that I have no reservations about recommending the book to any existing or future TypeScript developer. It can serve as the first book to start learning the language, but can teach you a lot even if you have already been programming in it for a while. Some of the samples towards the end of the book can become quite complex, but if you read the whole book and occasionally look at the code downloads, you should still be able to follow them.

Interesting set of features to add to the JavaScript developer toolbelt

One of the reasons many developers flock to JavaScript is because of the freedom that comes with writing code in a classless dynamic language, so why now the appeal to re-introduce coding "restrictions" into their day-to-day life with super-sets like TypeScript? Weren't we fine before without classes, lambdas, type-safety, interfaces, generics, enums, etc.? The short answer is of course, ES6 (the recently finalized 6th version of JavaScript) is bringing many new features and we'll all be adjusting to it eventually, and TypeScript blends well with many new ES6 features, yet offers many of its own ideas (which C# developers will instantly recognize) and the reader can evaluate for themselves the merit of each feature.

TypeScript offers many features that (unlike with C#) that compile away once your code is converted to native JavaScript (ie, you can't use reflection after the fact to infer types), so its main benefit is realized in introducing a compilation step to your current JavaScript coding process. This means you can enforce strong typing, use interfaces, generics, enums, explicitly declare public/private class members, which can potentially eliminate many problems that come with scaled-out enterprise level JavaScript applications. For those craving many of the object-oriented features they miss from C#, Java or similar languages, TypeScript ports over a familiar syntactic sugar to carve out JavaScript in a familiar way.

There were several times reading through this book where I started thinking that while TypeScript might not always be a better way to write JavaScript, it still feels like a better way to write C#. After I stopped working in C# for six months or so in favor of JavaScript, I suddenly had need to put together a simple C# application to assist the back-end developers at my company, and found myself trying to do things that were easy to do in JavaScript but extremely difficult to do in C#. Often you can't know for sure if you're going in the right direction without trying out a few things, and therefore the speed of JavaScript development is one of the best assets to rapid development, in my opinion. In C# this meant trying to try out an idea before sculpting out all the classes you need, and often I dipped into using the "dynamic" type, only to find it doesn't often play nicely with everything else in the whole C# ecosystem or behave the way you expect. After I had the basic ideas hammered out though, I was then able to go back through the application and clean it up by separating functionality into the appropriate classes and introduce the different types needed to stabilize the application. And it's that workflow that I'd point to as idea (again, in my opinion): prototype rapidly, and then stabilize the application with the clean refactoring necessary and "future proof" it with type safety.

This book covered a lot of material, including a full 60-page final chapter on building an SPA from scratch with TypeScript, but my only critique of it is it heavily favored Backbone throughout the book. Any quick peak at the popular front-end frameworks by search engine popularity (on google trends) will show Backbone tanking compared to the others out there (especially to Angular and React, and has recently even been overtaken by Ember), and with the Angular team's announcement of their adoption of TypeScript seems like it would have been the ideal candidate, but that's only my opinion and I'm sure many readers out there have reasons why they prefer other JS frameworks.

A tool like TypeScript (whether leveraged on the front-end JS or back-end in something like Node) allows that kind of workflow to be realized and helps preserve some of the great ideas present in languages like C# or Java. Time will tell how well TypeScript will catch on and how accepted it will become, especially as more developers beginning using ES6. My expectation is it will be most useful in larger applications.

Unusual Diana Palmer

Characters Eleanor Whitman and Keegan Taber are the primaries in this 1986 tale from Diana Palmer. It's unusual in that Eleanor is still angry over their one passionate encounter three years later. She shows some spunk in that respect but, on the other hand, she accepts little of the responsibility. Palmer's stories set in Jacobsville, Texas are the best, but this one is worth reading.

This is a little different from most DP novels.This time the hero is trying to get back with the girl he used to make another girl jealous.But she's not buying what he's selling!Of course,everything turns out for the best,but the road to true love is rocky,indeed.

Part of an important debate...

In "Defending the National Interest," Krasner steps outside the normal IR (International Relations) debate about the definition of the national interest and instead defines the national interest empirically. For Krasner (pp.13), the national interest is "defined inductively as the preferences of American central decision-makers." For his cases, he considers the "decision-makers" to be the relevant officials in the White House and the State department. His historical case study method is particularly well suited to discovering the preferences of these decision makers, and he finds several interests that are pursued consistently over time. Krasner's case studies concern post-WWII U.S. foreign policy regarding raw materials acquisition, and he finds that the U.S. has acted consistently to protect key raw materials sources. In a chapter in his 1990 book, "The Power Elite and the State : How Policy Is Made in America," G. William Domhoff disputes Krasner's definition of the national interest and the origin of the raw materials policy that they both observe. I recommend both books, as the dialogue between the two scholars is really interesting. Both are a must for the aspiring political sociologist.
