Just Google His Name

The author readily admits that most of their information comes from interviews and tumblrs dedicated to Benedict. Essentially, information that can be accessed via Google search. I brought this in hopes of learning something new that may have made a descent to a cutting room floor. Sadly, no. The cloying nicknames given to Benedict (B'batch) and his parents (Wimothy) are too much after a time. However, this book is nice if you are not a long time fan or a new fan.

Professor Robert Bor trained in the UK, South Africa and the USA. He is a Chartered Clinical, Counselling and Health Psychologist as well as a Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Highly recommend this book

I purchased the first AG Care and Keeping of You for my daughter when she was almost 9 years old. I wanted her to understand her body and be prepared with the changes that were coming so she wasn't worried about it. The first one was an excellent book and very tastefully done. This second book does not disappoint. My daughter is now 11 (almost 12) and was in need of a bit more detailed information now. This book provides just enough, but again, it is very tastefully done. If my daughter were even 15 or 16 years old, this news would probably be old news to her. However, because of my daughter's age and being just at the beginning of puberty, this book is perfect timing. She and I both read it and it was a good sounding board because it helped her to formulate new questions about things she didn't know yet. So, it was a good jump off point to get healthy conversations rolling. I love that AG deals with the emotional/self-esteem side of the issues and not just the factual health side of the issues. After all, aren't emotions part of everyone's health and well-being? My daughter liked the Q&A sections and said they were very helpful.

Even though this book is a bit more in depth than the first one, it still uses the tasteful illustrations when discussing topics such as reproductive organs, breasts, and tampon tips. It also deals with breast exams and breast cancer, mentioning how it would be rare for someone this young to get breast cancer, but that it is important to know and understand your overall breast health as you grow up.

I would definitely recommend this book.

Great Resource for Pre and Early Teens

When my girls were in 3rd grade I gave them each a copy of the first The Care & Keeping of You. I loved the way this book talked about taking care of your entire body head-to-toe and the changes that were about to happen without delving into sex ed. So I was very interested in how they handled The Care and Keeping of You 2: The Body Book for Older Girls. (By older, they mean 10 years and up. I would say 4th grade and up.)

I had my girls (now in 6th and 8th grades) review this book with me. We all agree that it covers important topics in a relevent and readable way, again without touching on the subject of sex. (There are other great resources on that topic.)

The Care and Keeping of You 2 covers:
1. Back to Body Basics, which includes eating right, the need to sleep, how to keep clean and pimple care
2. Girl Stuff, this section includes basic female anatomy, hormone facts, body changes, how to pick a bra, all about periods,and how to wear a tampon.
3. It's All in Your Head talks about the changes in your brain and emotions. It also covers body image and the need to excerise.
4.Your Body, Your World covers famiy dynamics (how to get along with siblings and maintaining healthy relationships with your parents), Peer pressure and family rules (the book emphasizes the need to obey and respect your parents, and not to expect to do everything your friends are allowed to do.) It speaks to developing your own style, but cautions against showing too much of yourself to others.

The book also touches on Internet safety and when to go to an adult for help. As in the first The Care and Keeping of You, this book is fully illustrated with cartoon drawings typical of American Girl series.

I would highly recommend this book for pre-teen girls and their moms. This book is full of great information, easy to read and a great discussion starter.

Reassuring and comfortable presentation for target age group

As this book title states, this version of "The Care and Keeping of You" is for older girls. It could very easily be used with girls approaching puberty as long as parents are comfortable with the several illustrations which I will mention later. I think the aspect I appreciate most about this book is that it not only presents the facts of the sexual maturation process, but also addressed other issues that accompany the emotional and social aspects that weave themselves into this very confusing growth period.

The girls' favorite aspect of this book was not so much the technical information about puberty, instead they really appreciated the "Help! Q&A" section at the end of each chapter. These (as well as other sections) give very practical options regarding how to deal with the common, yet uncomfortable or confusing situations in which they find themselves as their bodies, social interactions, and perspectives are changing.

Parents appreciated the last chapter, "Your Body, Your World" which emphasizes 1) the importance of girls making effort family to connect with their family, 2) selecting good friends/being careful with sharing personal information, 3) being strong enough to say no to bad choices, and 4) consulting with parents before making permanent and temporary changes to their hair or body. Above all they appreciated the fact that the book often directs the girls to their parents as safe people who typically have their best interest in mind.

The diagrams with which some girls and some parents may feel discomfort are found in "The Anatomy of You": 1) illustrations and correct terminology of female sexual organ/s, reproductive organs, and breasts, 2) clear illustration of how to preform a self examination of breasts, and 3) how to insert a tampon. I personally appreciated the last two. It is important for girls to take charge of their own health without feeling uncomfortable and the instructions that came with the tampon boxes weren't very user friendly when I was a kid (maybe they've improved, I don't even bother to look anymore).

The only con I can find in this book is that some very advanced and modern young ladies may find this book too childish for them. For parents with girls who are too sophisticated to touch this book, I'm sure there is a book better suited for their girls.

This general purpose dictionary of soil science has 9188 terms, each with a definition in English (British spelling) and terms translated in French, German, and Spanish. An index of terms in each of these latter three languages is included. With the expansion of international collaboration in the soil sciences, this feature alone makes the dictionary a valuable reference book. The acid-free paper is high quality and the type setting is easy to read, making it an attractive volume for the tactile reader, who may enjoy flipping through its pages. There seems to remain a need for hardcopy reference material even in our electronic age, when one might argue that online access is more efficient and cost effective.
The authors' scope is "all fields of soil science and some related fields of science ... perhaps included too many terms of the related fields ..." It covers 26 subject areas, and the authors note some difficulties with uniformity of terminology. I was generally satisfied with the scope and accuracy of definitions offered. However, the reader is bound to find errors. It also includes six "Annexes" or appendices with information such as soil taxonomy.
I expect to refer to this dictionary regularly in my personal library, even if primarily to find its multilingual translations of soil-related terms. Others may debate the cost/benefit of purchasing such a volume and decide to wait for Elsevier to publish an online version with hyperlinked text.

Kevin Cahill is Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of New Mexico. Physical Mathematics is based on courses taught by the author at the University of New Mexico and at Fudan University in Shanghai.

A work of art long overdue

Its refreshing to see a mathematical methods book written by a practicing physicist. The result is a great reference for the professional and student alike in the physical sciences. Going beyond the standard fare Cahill provides easy to understand yet concise presentations of path integrals, the renormalization group, and even string theory. Standard fare like complex variables, differential and integral equations and Fourier transforms are also included. A must have addition for those studying physics and engineering, or readers simply interested in the topic for self-study. Much preferred to Arfken or Hassani.

A superb work on the overlap of mathematics and physics

Cahill's work evinces a great insight and passion for teaching mathematical methods and theoretical physics. His decades of classroom experience are evident in his command of the foundational topics in this overlap of mathematics and physics. The pace is brisk and the presentation is complete and economic. The choice of topics is fresh which makes the book a pleasure to read. The examples and exercises reveal a skilled explicator who has helped to train a generation of physicists. This tome is a welcome and modern addition to even the most crowded bookshelf.

Fine treatment of Maths in Physics

We used to read Courant-Hilbert and some others years ago. Those books are still relevant. But Cahill's book is a very modern treatment of the subject and with it one can go deeply into the mathematical background of much of modern physics. I would say, as a professional mathematician (retired professor) that Cahill's style is somewhat different from a mathematician's in subjects I am familiar with, but with effort one can go deeply into many topics: tensor analysis and gravitation, Sturm-Liouville methods just to name two. Cahill constantly illuminates his discussion with examples from current research. Anthony Zee recommends this book and so I think that is sufficient.

WARNING!!! Stay away from this rip off!!!

Very expensive book!! At a price tag of $60 you will get nothing than the paper it is printed on. This book only has less than 150 pages, lots of the pages are half or more than half empty. Lots of useless large divination Charts with just a few unclear explanation in point form about the charts to fill up the pages. To make any sense of this book you probably need to have an understanding of a master in this art. However, as a master you most likely will not need this book just to discover how riddled with flaws it could be. Either he is a terrible teacher/writer or he does not know much about the art of QMDJ himself. This book does not have step by step instruction on how to plot a QMDJ Chart nor provide a thorough guide on interpretation of the Charts. Very disappointing book, it claims to show how to use the power of QMDJ to find answers. the title "Practical Application of QMDJ"
There is nothing practical about this book, it is so incomprehensively written that it is worth not more as toilet paper. Useless book difficult to comprehend as it does not teach anything about QMDJ divination and interpretation. There is nothing to gain from this edition, you learn basically nothing. In the end you are left with no understanding how to use and apply this highly acclaimed art of QMDJ.
Stay away from all the other edition by Calvin Yap as you will notice how expensive they are. This is a rip off scheme by the author.
If there were lower star option to choose from, I would give it a negative 3 stars.

Wonderful refrenece book

I just returned from a kayaking trip in the Johnston Straight just East of North Vancouver Island known as the inside passage. We had first hand views of the Orcas. This book was used as a reference manual to identify some of the whales. It has wonderful reference pictures of the known pods (families) in the area. It goes into great detail on their eating habits, language, and family history. It also explains their social behavior, and the differences between the pods. It is a wonderful book full of pictures, and details.

A well-deserved second edition to an essential work

Killer Whales (2000), written by killer whale experts John Ford, Graeme Ellis, and Ken Balcomb, provides an overview of the three "eco-types" of killer whales in the Pacific Northwest: the offshore, transient (mammal-eating), and resident (fish-eating) populations, with a focus on the latter type - transients are covered in the companion book Transients (1999), by the first two authors of this book. The book is divided into five chapters which describe the various differences between the three populations (e.g. appearance, diet, social structure, dialects, and occurrence), detail the social structure of resident orcas (from matrilines to communities), tell you where you can see killer whales, presents a photographic catalogue of resident killer whales to allow you to individually identify them in the field, and finally covers conservation concerns (including the availability of food, pollutants, and vessel disturbance) and their future prospects. "Sidebars" or interludes cover such topics as telling apart the three eco-types, how to differentiate males from females, and genetics. The book includes a number of (mainly) black-and-white photographs, several maps, a glossary, and a bibliography. Along with Transients (1999), this work offers a great resource for those wishing to learn more about killer whales in the Pacific Northwest.

For anyone who loves whales.

This book, the second edition for Ellis, Balcomb and Ford, is a beautiful book for anyone interested in whales, their habitat and their behaviour. Focusing on the Orcas of the Pacific Northwest, this book details their lives from what they eat, to their social habits. It includes a wonderful photo chart of all the Northwest Orcas still alive when this book was published. It is a bit heavy reading, with many complex scientific terms. I would not reccommend for children, but if you know anyone with a facination with whales, this book will it into an obsession.
