Great source of Proposal Information

Great source of information. Of course 2 weeks after I bought this Shipley came out with this book in eBook format. The only thing that would have been better, is if Shipley would have provided the sample templates in some type of electronic format from a website. It would eliminate some time, rather than having to recreate them from scratch.

This is Wikipedia style or crowd sourced wisdom and time saving tips, from thousands of Shipley client Business Development, Bid and proposals engagements every year, globally. Then, edited by Larry Newman, one of the first APMP Fellows.
So the broadest possible practical (ie it is real world and it works) experience, that all ties together in a consistent BD LIFECYCLE framework.
There are other books and guides to business and proposal writing - but none match the breadth of thinking and practical detail of the Shipley guides.
You write to win - and every aspect of these guidelines builds to winning not just writing.

More for the defense or plane building companies. The method is elaborate and complex. Lots of information you can use if doing "bids" or "proposals". But IMHO this method explained can be made more "agile" for high-tech and other industries.

I was not disappointed with this book for a few reasons. The topics are very light and not heavy. They discuss simple things such as being nervous, taking better notes and how to handle a stressful week. It would have been nice if the book were more biblical based, it does not use versus from the Bible to make any points. Its a really simple, magazine style book with simple advice. The book has 102 tips for girls and I only didn't like a couple of them and it was mainly because of personal preference. I felt like the advice given was simple for example, being a good babysitter was mainly to pay attention to the children your watching instead of watching TV. I don't think that it was the best advice book out there but I think it was fun for my girls and was simple enough that I didn't have to worry about the world teaching my girls things I am not ready for them to learn yet.

I let my 14 year old daughter read through the book before I wrote my review and she thought the book was ok. She felt like a lot of the tips were not useful. She said she would give it only 3 stars out of 5. She did like the pictures and how the book was set up. She said it was fun to read even if the tips were not useful. It had recipes which she liked and some good tips such as how to stay safe.

My Review:
Growing up female by today's standards isn't always a good thing and to be perfectly honest it is definitely very difficult. Especially if you want your girl to be confident. This is such a tougher world than what many of us older women grew up in. Girls need to be under constant supervision as well as need many confidence builders throughout the course of their adolescence.

Faithgirlz editors have been there and know just the trick to help our girls feel more accepted and loved just like their Father feels they should be. They have put together a book that gives them just a small piece of advice on just about any subject. It is well formatted and it has just small tidbits, so its not an overwhelming book by any means.

With little pieces of advice such as ordering healthy when eating out and becoming more independent our girls will be on their way to a better overall sense of self in no time. And that's not all there is a quiz in the back of the book, who doesn't like quizzes?

the words are very relatable and easy to read

The book is very ascetically appealing,the pages are colorful,and every pages has ton of photos,the words are very relatable and easy to read,which is perfect for young girls.I love how every page has photos,of what I’m going to assume are real teenage girls,and they are putting the words into action,so if its talking about what to do on a rainy day,there are girls doing said activities.This book is a great confidence builder for preteens and teens,i love how it covers a large variety of topics.Its great that they even included recipes,but there not really age appropriate,since no kid is likely to have the patience to wait over an hour for a chicken/cake to cook and cool,they should have included recipes that were easy,short and sweet,or at least 30 minutes or less cook time.I love that they included a lot of school related things because kids this age can easily loose focus and interest in school,they also often times loose confidence in themselves and there school work.One thing about number 38,before I read it I though,oh no there not really going to tell kids how to talk there parents into stuff,but yes they did,although it wasn’t as bad as I thought,it is just basically telling them if they behave all the time and get all there school work done,when it comes time,and they really want something,parents are more likely to be lenient.The book mentions health and health choices a lot,which in a way is super good,since obesity is at an all time high,but I feel like it pushes it to much and in to many spots,kids this age are especially hard on themselves about looks,and the pressure to be thin at this age is high,and I feel like some teens,may feel extra pressure by this advice,or misinterpret it,bottom line I feel like it harps on health a little to much,fewer more gentler reminders are better.I did enjoy seeing that this book gives advice about all things,things major and minor,some stuff all girls go through,such as how to talk to boys,making friends,acne,etc,many of these things kids often feeling like they can’t go to there parents about,so its good for them to have another healthy outlet.I reading all this great advice and and then I get to number 54,I’m super thrown off,I am not sure why teens need advice about learning to do a split,it feels like they just threw this one in there,although 56 sounds fun,i myself would like to try making those lip balms,love that there all natural too.I did find what I believe is an error,on the section stuff to do on a rainy day number 7 out of 10 “its an ideal time,for giving yourself a little lesson in… whatever you’re been meaning to learn” this in fact should be “whatever you’ve been meaning to learn.I would recommend this book to everyone,of all ages,especially those with kids,preteens,or teens.I received this book for free,for review purposes,all thoughts and or opinions are my own and I was not compensated.

This book presents numerous examples of interactions between Indian music and the West since the 18 th century. The book is organized into chronologically ordered chapters, starting in the late Eighteenth century, proceeding through the Nineteenth century, the early Twentieth century and the late Twentieth century. It includes a discography for the late Twentieth century chapter, as well as an extensive list of sources and bibliography. The book is scholarly in style, and well footnoted. Nevertheless, the text is quite engaging throughout.
The coverage of the material is in some places overly general, going beyond musical topics to such issues as race relations and colonialism. Early in the book, Farrell briefly discusses Edward Said's "Orientalism", and some parts of this book examine Orientalism in music in light of some of Said's ideas. On the other hand, other parts of the book are quite detailed, even discussing individual concerts that took place 100 years ago. This juxtaposition of general comments and details feels at times as if the book was actually written as individual papers, to be published separately, rather than as one long coherent work. In contrast to the broad title, the text focuses mostly on Hindustani classical music, although Carnatic classical music is occasionally mentioned, as well as film music
Farrell's discussions center around the lack of understanding of Hindustani music displayed by British and American audiences and musicians. He describes how British colonialists tried to transcribe Indian music in the Eighteenth century, how British and American audiences couldn't distinguish between fake and authentic Indian music, and how rock musicians tried to play sitar without any understanding of Indian music. He puzzles over why only jazz and rock musicians have experimented with Indian music, and not classical musicians, and why Indian classical music has been interesting to fans of world music, but not Indian pop music. I don't find such issues so mysterious- -after all, classical music is by definition based on a conventional standard, so we wouldn't expect experimentation with Indian music by Western classical musicians. On the other hand, world music fans want to hear something new and different. Indian classical music is certainly different, but Indian pop music, even though it might use some traditional instruments or rhythms, sounds too much like pop music everywhere else to be particularly interesting to outsiders.
I find other facets of the interactions between the West and Indian music to be much more interesting, such as the possible historical links between many classical Western music instruments and classical Indian instruments (the nagaswaram and the oboe, for instance, or the sitar, oud, and guitar). Or the willingness of Indian classical musicians and their audiences to adopt new instruments from the West, such as the violin, saxophone, mandolin, or even Hawaiian steel guitar. Since they are adopting these instruments into their own classical tradition, it seems very different from Western rock musicians experimenting with sitar. From the title of this book, I expected at least some exploration into issues such as these, but Farrell never mentions them.

Infinite Vistas , based most ly on a series of public lectures, con sists of 11 chapters by professional astronomers on major new astronomi cal instruments under construction, planned, or hoped for. From radio waves to gamma rays, they cover the full range of the electromagnetic spec trum, summarizing recent progress, de tailing planned new equipment, and ex plaining research problems to be resolved in the future. Individual con tributions are well written and fit to gether unusually well to form a coher ent treatise. Given the key role of instrumentation in the dramatic pro gress of 20th-century astronomy, the volume provides an exciting peek at the next two decades. Readers do not need advanced training to enjoy this work, although some prior knowledge of as tronomy and physics might be useful. Berry's book contains detailed in structions for amateurs wishing to con struct small optical telescopes. It pro vides photographs and plans for five specific telescopesfour reflectors of differing sizes and styles and one re fractor. Several other chapters explain telescope construction and general use. the best single book today for making your first scope!

If you can only have one first book on making your own telescope this is it! I have been an active amateur astronomer for almost 35 years and I wish this book had been out in 1965 at the time I first got interested in astronomy. Richard Berry when he was editor of "Astronomy", and "Telescope Making" (now sadly defunct),was the first to popularize John Dobson's Sidewalk Telescope design now simply known to amateur astronomers everywhere as the "Dobsonian". In this book he leads you in how to build several excellent telescopes from parts that are easily available from hardware/lumberyard sources everywhere. He shows and explains 5 different example projects, 4",6",10" Newtonians on Dobson mounts, how to mount a refractor on a Dobson type mount, and even one equatorial mount made of plywood and hardware parts. The projects are well illustrated and explained. He gives you a good overview of commercially available parts and commonly used eyepieces. But beyond being just a simple how-to project book he gives an explanation of telescope history and and basic optical theory. I wish I had his well illustrated chapter on "Home Brewed Optics" when I made my first telescope mirror. While not a substitute for having a copy of Allyn Thompson's "Making Your Own Telescope", or Jean Texereau's "How to Make a Telescope" which deal mainly with the making of the primary mirror, it would have tied together concepts I did not understand well at the time. When I'm asked while doing public star parties (and you always will be while doing that kind of thing)"what kind of telescope should I get" or "where can I find out how to build one these things (the telescope)", I always recommend this book. In fact I now always bring a copy to these occasions so they can get the title and author correct as well as browse thru it. You can light a number of fires that way.

I built a telescope from plans in this book

I am no craftsman, but I used one of the plans in this book to build a telescope - not a toy, but a real astronomical telescope that I use frequently. Berry includes plans for 4.25", 6", and 10" reflectors and for a 6" refractor.
The plans are quite complete, and the process of construction is given in detail. Berry devotes some space to mirror grinding, but I chose to buy my mirror, so I can't comment on his instructions. He also provides an introduction to astronomical observing, which I found helpful.
Berry's writing is clear and his tone is encouraging and enthusiastic. I recommend the book highly.

Excellent!

This is the best book out there for the beginning telescope maker. It is the book I used to build my first 6"; without it I would probably not have built a telescope at all.
Berry provides detailed and complete instructions for several telescopes. His writing is easy to understand and very clear, and he gives some very important practical advice about building and observing.
