About the Author
Yuri and Katrin Shumakov - a stellar artist-duo, professional origami creators, who started their origami journey in France in 1989 and since then they unfold this art in a heretofore unseen way! They have created amazing paper world ORILAND with incredible fantasy Kingdoms that impress with rich detail of majestic castles, abundance of paper flora and busy life of little paper dwellers. Their newest kingdoms Toy-ronto and Albuquerque combine fantasy and reality together, presenting a whimsical artistic rendition of iconic sights of these cities. Another beautiful and elegant aspect of origami they brought to life is ORIBANA - a marriage of two Japanese arts: Origami and Ikebana. By combining these remarkable art-forms, in early 1990s Katrin and Yuri began to create paper flower arrangements in paper vases and thought up a distinctive name for it - Oribana. Since then they designed more than 50 charming oribana-compositions with a broad variety of origami flowers and vases. Being prolific origami authors they created more than a thousand of origami designs from simple forms and cute characters to complex dinosaurs' skeletons and architecture that all have a distinctive Oriland style. Psychologists by education, Katrin and Yuri have studied how origami helps children learn. Their Ph.D scientific work shows that by doing origami, children develop better use of both hands and that origami can improve creativity and intelligence in children ages 7 to 11. They believe that origami is "entertainment for the soul, gymnastics for the mind, and training for the hands." In 1999, Yuri and Katrin received the Silver Award in the ThinkQuest International Competition for their 'Travel to Oriland' website and it brought them and their team to Universal Studios Hollywood for the Award Ceremony! Their Oriland.com website became a winner of the Childnet Award that was given them in Paris, France. Both these projects were acknowledged as high quality creative, educational and fun websites for children and adults. Yuri and Katrin have written more than 30 origami books and instructional CDs, and their works have been exhibited in many countries including several venues in the United States, France, Spain and Canada. The Shumakovs also extend their artistic talents to the realm of photography and music. Katrin is a winner of the Toronto Photo Contest 2010. Yuri is enjoying music composing and sound design. They live in Toronto, Canada, love yoga and a healthy style of life.

About the Author
Robert R. Pagano received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1956 and a Ph.D. in Biological Psychology from Yale University in 1965. He was Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington, Seattle, from 1965 to 1989. He was Associate Chairman of the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh, from 1990 to June 2000. While there, in addition to his other duties, he served as Director of Undergraduate Studies, was the departmental adviser for undergraduate majors, taught both undergraduates and graduate statistics courses, and served as a statistical consultant for departmental faculty. Pagano was also Director of the Statistical Cores for two NIH center grants in schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease. He retired from the University of Pittsburgh in June 2000. Pagano taught introductory statistics courses at the University of Washington and at the University of Pittsburgh for over thirty years combined. While at the University of Washington, he was a finalist for the Outstanding Teaching award for his instruction of introductory statistics.

Superb Introductory Statistics Text

Prior to the first edition of this text I used a different text in my introductory statistics course each year because students did not like my text selections. I've used Pagano's text every year since the first edition was published in 1981 because every year the students tell me to retain this text. It is superbly written and exquisitely designed. It is the best text of its kind that I have seen in the past 25 years of teaching the subject.

It's Statistics....

If this is a class that is needed for graduation, then this is a good one. It accurately describes formulas to the extent that often I refer to the book over what the professor is speaking. Too frequently the prof can deviate from the actual material that a good sense of grounding is needed. Pagano effortlessly provides this backbone from which to base all statistics.

I can only speak from a psychology student's perspective, but despite my loathing for statistics, I still find this book somewhat endearing (as far as textbooks go). I am skeptic, and don't easily embrace new theories,especially when it comes to personality typing. However, I decided to try this method after reading a bit about it on Carol's website, [...] What this book (and system) gave me was a profound sense of peace about who I am and why I do things the way I do. My dominant energy is a type 4, which explains why everything I see and do gets filtered through a "critical" lens, and the underlying question "How can this (they) be better? How can this get transformed?" So I no longer have to beat myself up for my "critic" which speaks all the time. Understanding myself as a type 4 also explains why, when in grad school, at critique time, people would look at my work and say nothing. This is because I, and the work I create , exude the energetic of "stillness"! I think it also explains why, when I enter a room, people sometimes stare and get quiet (again, the stillness energetic at work here). This also, was profound for me. I could go on about other things I have discovered as well. I also understand my family better now, and I am sharing this information with my sister who is a parenting coach; this information will be a great asset to parents in understanding their kids (for eg. my younger niece, is a dominant type 1, who doesn't like to clean up after she drags all her stuff out! And she is all about fun and joy.) The other day, I was at the vet, and started a conversation with the woman next to me. After about 5 minutes, I could tell that she was a type one, as she was consistently bubbly despite the fact that we were talking about some serious stuff. She also had the facial characteristics of the type 1 - roundedness and apple cheeks. You have really hit it on the mark this time, Carol, and I am so glad I stumbled into this information. Even if I don't share this information with others (although I probably will), it is enormously useful in home and work life, and in all manner of relationships. You can't put a price tag on peace, which is what I believe this book will give everyone some measure of; I highly recommend it.

Carol Tuttle has discovered a personality profiling system. But it's not just another system. Carol uses physical features of our own bodies and compares them to physical features in nature and explains the correlation. But the information is based more on the energy behind the physical characteristics and not the actual physical traits. She then helps each "energy type" learn how they uniquely tick. Why is this important? Because we often function in certain ways that are mystifying to us and we wonder why in the world we do these things. Conversely, we often judge others because of things they do and say with assumptions as to why they do and say them. Carol's energy profiling helps us understand why we are the way we are at the core. She thoroughly explains all four energy types and helps us celebrate the unique creation that each of us is. Only then can we come to a place of understanding of who we are and who others are. It is so much easier to understand why someone is blunt (in our mind rude) if you understand that they are a 4. It is also easier to understand a bouncy, fun person who can't seem to finish anything because they are a 1. And to understand the drive and energy of a 3. Understanding your type can also help you find ways to work with your unique combination of energy types and grow and prosper, rather than beating yourself up for what may be a perceived weakness. I have read many other books that profile and have always been left feeling that something was missing. They helped me gain an understanding but I never felt I was "pegged" quite right. With Carol's It's Just My Nature, I finally feel as though I have the key and it is now easy to understand much of what I have chosen in my life. I know you will enjoy this fascinating book as much as I did.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!!

This book is so amazing. I share it anytime I get the chance. It has really been life changing for my family and me. Thank you Carol for your great Type 3 nature in getting this book out there!!

In response to the post about the author being rude and arrogant: It's so unfortunate that we label each other negatively. I have come to understand through Carol Tuttle's book "It's Just My Nature" that we all have strengths (and weaknesses too, of course). As a Type 2, my nature is to be more soft-spoken and quiet, not wanting to offend anyone. I'm sure many people call me "wimpy, with no backbone". Type 1's could be called "flighty and silly", Type 3's "rude and abrasive", and Type 4's "critical and cold". Just because someone reacts to a situation differently than we would, we label it unacceptable. If not for Carol Tuttle's direct approach to things she probably wouldn't be nearly as effective as she is. She says it like it is and if taken in the spirit it was given can really be life changing. I've been to many of her presentations and sometimes the questions people ask her can be repetitive and take the topic she's trying to teach off track, as well as taking way too much time. She has limited time to present the things she's planned. I've heard her say several times to read the book. It's great advice because the book is so thorough and most of the people at the presentations have taken the time to read the material and understand it, but the ones that haven't can waste a lot of time wanting explanations of things that have already been covered. I've had several personal interactions with Carol (I'm not related to her at all, so this is completely unbiased), and I can honestly say that she is a very warm and caring person. Her books - Remembering Wholeness and It's Just My Nature, and the Dressing Your Truth system has been life changing for me and so many women that I know. Yes, she is "to the point" and can be blunt, but isn't that awesome? If she were like me then this book wouldn't have reached the people it has and been as effective (or even been written yet). I love her blunt nature because sometimes we need that, don't we? And I hope you change your mind and decide to read her book. It has really helped me to understand all of the people in my life so much better, and helped me to let go of some of the negative judgements I've had about people when they're not like me, or when they react to situations differently than I think they should. It's so freeing to let people be who they were meant to be and hopefully they'll do the same for you. Good luck!

Amphibian Man is a science fiction adventure novel by the Soviet Russian writer Alexander Belyaev, first published in 1928. Argentinian doctor Salvator, a scientist and a maverick surgeon, performs a life saving transplant on his son, Ichthyander. The experiment was a success but it limited the young man's ability to interact with the world outside his ocean environment. He has to spend much of his time in water. Pedro Surita, local pearl gatherer, learns about Ichthyander and tries to exploit boy's superhuman diving abilities. Similar to other works by Beliaev, the book investigates the possibilities of physical survival under extreme conditions, as well as the moral integrity of scientific experiments. It also touches on socialist ideas of improving living conditions for the world's poor.
