This book was written by noted naval artist, author and Nevadan Wayne Scarpaci to commemorate the centennial of the launching of Battleship Nevada in 1914. It is lavishly illustrated in full color with 13 original paintings and over 100 photographs and drawings. It offers a unique perspective of one of the most famous battleships to ever serve the US Navy. From her prewar ‘show the flag’ cruises, to her Pearl Harbor sortie, and her resurrection and triumphant return to the fleet. Served in both the Atlantic and the Pacific Theaters during WWII she acquired a reputation for extremely accurate gunnery that was next to none. She was also known as a ship that would not hesitate to sail at full speed into harms way to support the troops on the beach. After WWII when the clock ran out for Nevada, she was designated as target ship. As such, she was twice atomic bombed and then withstood the sustained gunfire from another battleship, three cruisers, and eleven destroyers, but she defiantly refused to sink. Nevada finally succumbed to two torpedoes. A complete chronology of Battleship Nevada is also included. As is a look at various models and memorabilia of the ship over the years. Amateur Effort by a Good Naval Artist

An OK overview of the USS Nevada's career lacking written information. Author is a proud Nevada based artist with many of his pictures in the book, but they are reproduced in a format way too small to be of any value. Many external pictures of Nevada, but all have been previously published. Author only gives brief descriptions of ship's history with absolutely no depth. Almost no technical data. Insignificant info on salvage effort. Poor ships history of WW II. Lots of very small pictures but none are new (previously unpublished) info other than an interesting section on Nevada hobby models. Much less data than the typical Vanguard series book at twice the price. An OK amateur effort but all in all not worth the price. I was looking for something similar to Stillwell's "Battleship Arizona" and was very disappointed.

It is about time someone recognized this incredible ship and its crew. If you asked everyone in the U.S. to name the only battleship at Pearl Harbor to get underway, the ship that shot down 25% of the attacking japanese planes on 12/7/41 (and lost 60 men), the ship that received 7 Battle Stars in WWII, the ship that was the flagship for the Normandy Invasion, served at Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, served in WWI, was nuked twice yet still didn't sink, was the only ship whose hull number is also its namesake's states number of the 50 in the Union (36)...what would they say? Probably not the Nevada.
I salute all those who served aboard the USS Nevada, (BB-36), and the many who were lost. I commend Mr. Wayne Scarpaci for writing this book, and his amazing art contributions in this book as well. Well done, Sir.

Excellent illustrations, but a number of factual errors. Well worth it just for the original paintings.
