unbeatable jonas barish

This book does for the theater what Auerbach did for literary mimesis. It is one of the only great studies of antitheatricality and used to be only available in hardback. I hate to use the word indispensable, but there's really no other word for it. Not for use in undergraduate-level classrooms. Graduates only and beyond.

Brilliant book, but very elusive to obtain

This is a book that should have classic stature, but inexplicably it's very hard to get hold of. TH paperback copy I bought cost $33, but the postage from the USA to the UK was $44, so I'm delighted that the book is so helpful, though I am still amazed at the postage costs.
